TransLash Media tells trans stories to save trans lives. While Imara Jones, TransLash's founder and one of TIME's Most Influential People, had solidified her brand's content in film and podcasting, she wanted to add a written platform where trans people could tell their own stories. This new written platform would also facilitate TransLash's transition into an outlet less dependent on social media.
After determining the overall needs and vision for the platform, I began building. Within one month, we published our fist article. At nine months, News & Narrative content was ranking within the top 5 pieces of content on TransLash.org as a whole. Within one year, I established a news fellowship to give voice to trans people facing legislative and cultural violence which won our fellow a CURVE Emerging Journalist Award in 2023.
I brought together 5 organizations with shared audiences and values for a completely free event. We fed 30 households before the holidays and filled a local community fridge with fresh groceries. We also offered free PPE and home gardening education.
Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) is a public arts organization that aims to connect people and places to create a sense of belonging. The small team had been relying on a reactive communications plan due to limited resources. This led to inconsistency and a lack of clarity around the brand.
I implemented sustainable structures for storytelling and audience engagement. I managed all external communications which included creating brand templates for ongoing projects, structuring systems for measuring growth, designing materials to better engage donors, supporting production, and building audience trust.
Malik Books is a small, family-owned business but their name carries a lot of weight in the Black and self-published writing community. Since 1992, they have been a home for diverse literature and champion for self-published authors. After years of managing everything on their own, the owners were ready to create a system that allowed them to manage author submissions and support clients in a clear, easy, and organized way.
Malik hired me as a business consultant to streamline the operations for their book reviews, invoicing, and ongoing author support such as book signings.
When we started working together, the team at Malik Books was overwhelmed, frustrated, and unable to keep tabs on all of the meaningful connections they were making with Black authors all over the country. Now, they have the necessary operations support to focus on home, family, and what they love most about being community booksellers.
Mia Birdsong, former Aspen Institute Senior Fellow, recently laid the foundations of Next River: an Institute For Practicing the Future. I led the language initiative which included translating the mission, writing the website copy, newsletters, and social media posts.
Tonya wanted something fresh with room to grow. I managed and implemented Tonya's full suite website design including image sourcing, copywriting, and store setup.
Natasha wanted visitors to feel like they stepped into a spiritual retreat. I managed and implemented Natasha's full suite website design including copywriting and ongoing book page management.
The Tenth is a media organization that documents the history, ideas, aesthetics, and politics of the Black LGBTQ+ community. As the Managing Editor of Tenth Digital, I commissioned stories and art. I helped writers shape their pieces and formatted all articles in the backend of the site.
I have copyedited and line edited all of Harpoon's releases.
